I adore this album—my favourite of theirs.

Thanks for your comment, Andy, and for your sub. I’m writing a book for a popular series on classic rock albums about Who’s Next. I’ve been fascinated by the album, and the Lifehouse project, for decades.

I can relate to your contention that Who's Next is the greatest rock LP because as I just listened to it for the first time in a long time and I asked myself, "Is this the greatest rock album of all time?" What impressed me about this thought is that I had it after just having listened to Aftermath for the first time in a long time (thinking how amazing it was that there was a time when there were albums as good as this). The thing is, the record got so overexposed in the years after it came out that for my part I had to let it rest for 20 or so years to get the full impact of it. For a long time back then I never had a copy of it because I figured I'd heard enough of it on the radio already.

I understand the problem with initial over exposure. Even now I sometimes have a fear of listening to music I love too much. But we only live once and the clock is ticking ...

Yes, the band made everything better, especially when they were all firing on all cylinders in the 'Live at Leeds' / 'Who's Next' / 'Quadrophenia' years.

The right song choices were made, agreed, except it would have been good to find room for 'Pure and Easy'. But that might have meant sacrificing the obligatory Entwistle song, 'My Wife', which would have been a loss.

In the middle of writing about Peter Gabriel's 'Us' now, on its 31st birthday (eeek), and as it was a full moon a couple of days ago. Posting tomorrow.

I didn't know this was your fav album of all time. Of course I will disagree that it is. However, I do think the right songs from Lighthouse collapsing under its weight emerged on the vinyl & possibly the best versions of them too, Pete did need the band after all it seems.

I was just listening today and remarking to myself if it’s possible side 2 is even better than side 1?? Crazy good album and I consider it their best LP.

Great reflections, Ian, on a classic album that is easily one of the best of all time. Unlike me, you had the experience of it entering your heart by hearing it early in your life, and often. I heard the radio hits, and played several cuts on the radio, so my awareness (and certainly appreciation) of the album was far more cerebral than your emotional attachment! Such is the music of our youth, and our love for it all.🎶💖

Like a squeaky toy is for a dog, any of Who’s Next has the ability to stop me in my tracks with my ears perked up atop my head!! If you want me to, I will sing it beginning to end right now!

I’d join you, except there’s a reason why I write about music and don’t make music 😮

Teenage wasteland, it’s only …
