Gems #031
Side 1
The One Hand Clapping Wings bootleg of live studio sessions from 1974 is officially released in June. The first single is a muscular version of Junior’s Farm. Next, the Dave Matthews Band have just played two nights at the Royal Albert Hall in London, to excellent reviews. Somehow, I’ve never listened to them until now. This is a track from their great 2023 album Walk Around the Moon. If I’ve counted correctly they’ve released 52 live albums and an array of studio work, so my catching up may take some time. The Zutons are back after 16 years and sounding as good as ever. It’s taken a little less time for the Dave Foster Band to return - here’s the second single from their new album. Finally on Side 1, T. Rex on top of their game (I know, they were not always at their best) with the ‘B’ side of Get It On (called Bang a Gong in the US) from the time of Electric Warrior.
Side 2
David Gilmour's new album Luck and Strange is coming in September; the first single is The Piper’s Call. On the album, he’s covering this lovely song by The Montgolfier Brothers. The new Eric Clapton live album has the Prayer of a Child studio single added, which contributes to the children of Gaza and is a lovely, appropriately emotional, song. Lucy Rose has had a difficult time since the birth of her child, but she’s back with a lovely, lightly jazzy, album, just right for the warmer spring weather here in the U.K. (the arrival of such weather is delayed though - brrr). Lastly, a return to Peter Gabriel’s i/o - the Bright-Side mix of Road to Joy - because the boxed set of different mixes has finally arrived.

Lover the Paramore version of burning down the house. Close copy with enough exuberance to make it a thing of joy!
I’ve been buried at work so am a little late to this one. Quite a bit of new (to me) stuff here. I enjoyed the Dave Foster Band and really liked the track by The Montgolfier Brothers who I’m not familiar with. A little disappointed that the Lucy Rose release is only an EP because it’s lovely. Thanks for another great playlist Ian!
